Missing Texas woman’s body discovered in alligator’s mouth in Houston: police

A body believed to be that of a missing Texas woman was found inside an alligator’s mouth on Tuesday morning, police said.

Houston police came across the horrific scene around 8:40 a.m. while searching the Horsepen Bayou area of ​​Clear Lake for a woman who had been reported missing.

Police said the crocodile had been devouring the woman’s body and one of the officers shot it to stop it from causing further damage to the body.

Houston police divers were called to the scene and retrieved the body of a woman, believed to be in her 60s, and reptiles from the bayou.

Police said an autopsy will determine the identity of the deceased and the cause of death.

It is unclear whether the crocodile killed the woman or was scavenging her body after she was already dead.

The coroner will determine this during the autopsy.

The Houston Homicide Unit is investigating the woman’s death.

The last fatal alligator attack in the Lone Star State occurred in 2015, when a 28-year-old man was attacked and killed while swimming. Prior to his death, there had been no fatal alligator attack in over 90 years. According to ABC 13.

A similar tragedy occurred in Florida last September, when a 14-foot alligator was spotted walking through a residential area with a dead animal in its mouth.

Officers pulled the animal, still with its teeth clenched around its body, from where it had fallen into the ditch and shot it several times.

The body was later identified as that of Sabrina Peckham, a 41-year-old mother from Florida who was homeless at the time of her death and lived in a wooded area near a swampy canal.
