Nominee for National Park Service withdraws from consideration

President Donald Trump has officially withdrawn the nomination of Scott Sorcha for the position of Director of the National Park Service. This comes after Socha himself decided to withdraw his candidacy last month.

A White House official confirmed the news, stating, “Scott Sorcha has withdrawn his nomination.” In a statement, Socha explained, “I have withdrawn my candidacy to become Director of the National Park Service in March 2026 for personal reasons.”

Socha expressed gratitude towards the President and the Secretary of the Interior for their trust in him, and he appreciated the consideration given during the nomination process. He maintained a commitment to the stewardship of America’s national parks and ensuring a great experience for visitors.

Previously nominated in February, Socha currently serves as president of Parks and Resorts at Delaware North. The company noted his leadership role in its statement.

Delaware North manages hospitality services in various national and state parks and operates the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, among other ventures. This adds to the complexity of Socha’s commitment to the National Park Service, especially given the ongoing discussions about park accessibility and conservation.
