Rosie O'Donnell undergoes facelift despite promise to avoid plastic surgery

Rosie O’Donnell Discusses Facelift Experience

Rosie O’Donnell recently opened up about her decision to undergo a facelift, a choice she once vehemently opposed. After losing 50 pounds, she found herself grappling with feelings of guilt and shame following the cosmetic surgery.

In a heartfelt essay, she reflected on her past views surrounding facelifts, stating, “I used to feel very strongly about them, not just casually but morally.” O’Donnell believed that choosing to go under the knife was a betrayal to feminism and the aging process. Yet, she felt a shift after her weight loss.

She pondered over the mirror images—the changes she saw didn’t feel like aging but more like “melting.” O’Donnell stated, “How much does it look like you’re making?” questioning the authenticity of her acceptance of aging.

Her 13-year-old child, Clay, reacted strongly against her decision. O’Donnell recounted their conversation, where Clay firmly told her, “I wouldn’t respect you if you did that.” This comment, she remarked, really struck her, especially since it came from someone who still relied on her.

Describing her thought process, O’Donnell reached a realization: her body shouldn’t be confined to societal ideas, even those rooted in feminism. “It’s not free yet,” she commented, suggesting that traditional views on beauty still impose restrictions.

After much deliberation, O’Donnell finally had the facelift. She expressed that, to her surprise, others, including her daughter, didn’t notice any significant change. “I went through a full-on feminist existential crisis…and the result is… Zippo,” she said, sharing that she felt more like herself, just a bit more refreshed.

However, post-surgery, she struggled with feelings of guilt and deception. O’Donnell questioned her need for secrecy about the procedure, asking, “Who do I owe that truth to?”

She reflected on her privileges, admitting the procedure was costly—more than she had ever paid for a car. As she approaches a personal milestone, O’Donnell shared her feelings of joy in simply being alive and having a voice, embracing both her past and present.
