Texas GOP Candidate: Media's Lack of Coverage on American Deaths is 'Racist'

Media Coverage of Immigrant Fatalities Sparks Debate

Recent reports have drawn attention to the tragic deaths of two immigrants during ICE operations, yet little has been said about the numerous Americans who have lost their lives due to previous immigration policies encouraging both legal and illegal immigration.

Beau French, a Republican candidate for a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission, shared a post on social media highlighting the faces of 52 Americans killed by immigrants. He pointedly commented, “These are all Americans killed by illegal aliens.”

There seems to be a lack of outrage from both the media and the Democratic Party concerning these senseless tragedies, yet there’s significant effort to frame the removal of illegal immigrants— a task fraught with danger—as inherently racist.

This month’s coverage has notably differed, centering on two traffic stops that resulted in the deaths of illegal immigrants, even as ICE managed to apprehend thousands more without any issues.

Many reports downplayed or completely omitted the immigrants’ illegal status. For example:

“ICE police officer shoots and kills driver in Maine.”

“Officials speak out after ICE shoots multiple people.”

“ICE suspends traffic stops after two fatal shootings.”

“Man shot and killed by ICE agents in southern Maine.”

“One person killed in ICE-related shooting in Maine.”

Several news segments also portrayed the grief experienced by immigrant families:

“‘My father was taken from me’: Sons of those killed by ICE speak out.”

“Partner of man shot and killed by ICE agents in Maine speaks out.”

“Daughter Wants Daddy: Family of Maine Man Killed by ICE Agents Speaks to Media.”

Meanwhile, the death of 6-year-old Kali Toler received minimal attention from major outlets, even though it was reported by Breitbart News. Kali’s death was the result of a car crash involving Jaime Santiago Corona, a 33-year-old illegal immigrant who has since been charged with several driving offenses.

On July 3, Kelly Toler was driving with her children when Corona, allegedly driving with a revoked license and disregarding a stop sign, collided with their vehicle. While Kelly and her younger son sustained serious injuries, Kali was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends and family are now fundraising to assist Kelly and her husband, Quentin, with funeral expenses, as Kali was remembered fondly for her love of dancing.

Americans are increasingly aware of the disparity in how the deaths of American citizens and immigrants are treated by the media.

Over recent years, thousands of Americans have lost their lives at the hands of immigrants, although there’s no official count on these fatalities. Some volunteer organizations claim to have identified over 1,200 Americans killed by immigrants using various forms of violence.

In stark contrast, there are no official figures on the numerous migrants who have perished while attempting to enter the U.S. under President Biden’s policies.

There are documented cases of immigrants dying in workplaces across the nation, yet coverage of these stories remains sparse.

Some officials from former President Trump’s administration have criticized a media focus that seems out of touch. For instance, Tom Homan, Trump’s former border czar, pointed out the striking absence of concern for women and children suffering from sex trafficking and the thousands of deaths among migrants attempting to cross borders.

“Where were they when 250,000 Americans died from fentanyl coming across the border? It’s a historical record! Where were they?”

Meanwhile, Breitbart News has been chronicling the deaths linked to a progressive stance favoring high immigration levels, contrasting these with lives saved as a result of stricter border security measures introduced under Trump.

The media seems to focus more on the hardships faced by immigrants than on the deaths of Americans, reflected in how stories are framed. For instance, a recent long-form piece detailed the struggles of an Indian family facing visa issues while taking little time to consider the broader implications for American professionals losing jobs to foreign labor.

One individual described their harrowing experience: “I think this is an inhumane way to deny people visas. It’s been almost four months. If you really wanted to help, you could have found a solution.”

Critics are pointing out that the H-1B visa program is being exploited, putting American workers at a competitive disadvantage. Representative Riley Moore noted that companies are using the H-1B visa system against American laborers, raising concerns about fairness in job opportunities.

“American workers are the only ones who have to compete with workers from all over the world within their own borders,” Moore added.
