Therapist and Democratic candidate proposes turning ICE facilities into centers for 'American Zionists,' including a castration center

Controversial Statements in South Texas House Race

In Washington, sex therapist Maureen Galindo, a leading Democratic candidate in the South Texas House race, has stirred up significant controversy by suggesting that immigrant facilities be converted into “prisons for American Zionists,” complete with castration centers.

Galindo’s campaign has made unsupported claims against her Democratic opponent, asserting he was “paid to put Jews and Mexicans into concentration camps via Zionist human trafficking networks.” In a striking move, if elected, she vowed to introduce legislation to coincide with these views.

Her campaign’s statement on Instagram last week included, “If Maureen enters Congress, she will create legislation that labels all support for Zionism as anti-Semitic, as it harms Jews.” The post controversially proposed transforming the Kearns ICE Detention Center into a facility for “American Zionists and former ICE agents involved in human trafficking, possibly even a castration center for predominantly Zionist pedophiles.”

The Kearns Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center has faced protests from progressive groups for years. Ironically, this comment seemed to be a response to allegations from her rival, Johnny Garcia, about his intentions toward Jewish individuals.

However, the implication of detaining Zionists echoes the very accusations of warehousing Jews that Garcia has made against her. In a statement, the watchdog group Stop Antisemitism emphasized the need for equal scrutiny of anti-Semitic rhetoric, regardless of its source. “Democratic leaders must openly denounce the bigotry influencing their party,” they stated.

During the March primary, Galindo led with 29.2% of the vote compared to Garcia’s 27%. As no candidate achieved a majority, both are heading to a runoff next Tuesday.

This election concerns Texas’ 35th District, which stretches from San Antonio to parts of Austin and is presently represented by Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas). However, redistricting efforts by Republicans aim to alter its demographics to gain an advantage.

Garcia criticized Galindo’s focus on conspiracy theories over practical issues, emphasizing that this has attracted attention—and funding—from Republican circles. “Residents are struggling with daily expenses,” he remarked, adding that “this is why Republicans are boosting her campaign.”

He also pointed out that Galindo has been supported by the Lead Left PAC, a group alleged to have spent around $428,713 on her campaign, although some Democrats believe the amount is much higher, estimating it has surpassed $1 million across various campaigns.

Prior to the primary, Galindo had raised less than $10,000, according to records. A spokesperson for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) criticized the Republican Party’s tactics, claiming they are exploiting anti-Semitism for political gain, calling such strategies “disgusting.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) remarked on how Galindo and Garcia appear to be undermining each other. “They are turning their race into a firing squad,” he said.

Amidst this turmoil, Galindo’s campaign literature has highlighted her plans to impeach President Trump and dismantle ICE. The primary race continues to escalate, entwined with issues of identity and political rhetoric, and both candidates have been urged for clarity on their positions.
