Trump Seeks Diplomatic Resolution Amid Ongoing U.S.-Iran Conflict
President Donald Trump has indicated his intention to diplomatically resolve the protracted conflict with Iran. This announcement follows his declaration that the ceasefire is “over,” amidst a recent exchange of attacks between the two nations.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue the ‘dialogue,'” Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday. He affirmed the U.S. is open to talks but made it clear that the ceasefire is no longer in effect.
At the recent NATO summit in Turkey, Trump did not hold back in his criticism of Iran’s leadership, referring to them as “cuckoos.”
“I don’t want anything to do with them anymore. They’re scum… Led by sick people, they’re evil, violent people,” he stated. “If they had nuclear weapons, they would use them.”
Despite Trump’s pessimistic view about the usefulness of further negotiations, key figures like Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner advocate for continued dialogue.
This discussion arose shortly after Iran attacked three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting the U.S. to retaliate with strikes on Iranian military infrastructure in the following days.
On another note, Iran held a long-awaited funeral for its former supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who was killed during an Israeli attack back in February. The ceremony kicked off just before the Fourth of July, with attendees reportedly chanting anti-U.S. slogans.
Additionally, reports surfaced this week regarding an Iranian plot to assassinate Donald Trump. He commented on this, saying, “They want to remove me as the leader of the United States. I’m on all of their lists. I looked this morning and I was on all of their lists. So far, I think I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that probably won’t last long.”
