Trump Rallies Support in New York Ahead of Midterm Elections
President Donald Trump has gathered voters in New York’s pivotal district as the midterm House elections approach.
During a speech on Friday in Suffern, New York, introduced by New York Giants quarterback Jackson Dart, Trump appeared alongside U.S. Representative Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., to discuss the tax bill that Lawler helped negotiate and pass last year.
Lawler is pursuing re-election in New York, and his race is one of the most closely monitored for the upcoming House of Representatives elections this November.
In his remarks, Trump praised Lawler, humorously referring to him as “awesome” while playfully mocking him about his persistent advocacy for the tax deduction expansion. Lawler successfully influenced the president to quadruple the state and local tax deduction, which is particularly significant in high-tax areas like New York.
“Mike is fantastic, but I have to say, he’s quite a nuisance when it comes to his own district,” Trump remarked. “He wouldn’t stop bothering us about the tax credit. He was always on the phone saying, ‘Mr. President, we need this for New York; we have to expand it.’ Thanks to his persistence, we made it happen. We quadrupled it, and that’s huge for this state.”
Following this, Trump invited Lawler to the stage to express gratitude for the president’s collaboration in bringing significant benefits to local residents. Lawler mentioned that over 90% of the residents in New York’s 17th District can fully deduct their state and local taxes now.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for partnering with me to achieve this important win for hardworking families in the Hudson Valley,” Lawler said. “The previous system was burdensome. Because of the framework we created together, over 90 percent of residents in my district can fully deduct their state and local taxes. That’s real money staying in the hands of middle-class New Yorkers.”
Trump continued to advocate for New York, stating his commitment to revitalizing the state and highlighting its potential.
He attributed the recent downturn in New York City to poor policies and corrupt politicians, as well as to what he described as “the absurdity of the radical left.” Nonetheless, Trump insisted that his administration aims to make the state “bigger, better, and stronger than ever.”
“New York State is brimming with talent and extraordinary potential,” said the president. “This is a fantastic place, but recently, it’s been hindered by bad policies and ineffective leaders. They’re driving people away. However, my administration is collaborating with fighters like Mike to restore New York to its former glory.”
