U.S. workers drive economic growth through Trump's supportive labor policies

Celebrating American Workers This Labor Day

Over the last 250 years, hardworking individuals across the country have built the very foundations of our nation. They’ve paved roads, constructed bridges, and raised the skyscrapers we see today. Their relentless dedication continues to drive progress and prosperity.

This Labor Day, we honor the American workers who have ventured into new territories and helped shape vibrant communities and industries. For two and a half centuries, these workers have been the backbone of our economy, supporting not just themselves but also their families.

As a mother of twin girls and a recent grandmother, I know firsthand that our daily grind—our 9 to 5—centers around the people we gather with at the kitchen table. Our wage workers aren’t just clocking in; they’re working toward meaningful goals. Their efforts are what support the next generation.

This is why we recognize and celebrate the work ethic of American workers. They not only contribute to the economy; they also embody the American dream, making it possible for future generations to thrive.

Trump’s Legislative Vision for Economic Growth

At the Department of Labor, we’re accelerating toward what could be America’s golden era. Signs of prosperity are on the horizon, marked by the highest median weekly earnings since Donald Trump last held office.

We are focused on creating new jobs that support families and ensuring that skilled workers are ready to fill these positions. There’s already been a notable increase in jobs for native-born workers—up by over 2.4 million since January.

To keep this progress moving forward, President Trump has tasked the Labor Bureau with reskilling initiatives. It’s a commitment that will take time, but I believe it will yield significant benefits for workers and their families.

As I create new opportunities for American workers, I’m out there talking to individuals across the nation to understand our policies better. I’m discovering what people need from their government and how we can serve them effectively.

Workforce Preparation as a Priority

During my 50-State America at Work tour, I saw a consistent theme: the need for workforce preparation. Years of political neglect had left our workers behind, with their interests often overlooked.

Now, the Trump administration is shifting that narrative, positioning workers at the forefront of our economic strategy. We’re honoring the American spirit that played such a significant role in our nation’s founding.

In the wake of President Trump’s second term, we’re witnessing rapid economic change fueled by sound trade agreements and labor policies, particularly in the private sector. Domestic investments have surpassed $8 trillion, generating 500,000 private sector jobs since his inauguration.

Wages for blue-collar workers have also risen by 1.4% over the past year, marking one of the fastest increases on record. Unlike previous trends, wages have seen consistent gains under President Trump, even compared to the last 26 months during President Biden’s term.

Strategic Planning for Future Growth

We’re just getting started, and this expected job and wage growth has prompted a collaborative effort across the administration to fuel this robust economy. Together, we have established a plan called the American Talent Strategy, which aims to widen access to well-paying jobs and create a skilled workforce for critical industries. It looks to integrate artificial intelligence skills into the labor market and position the U.S. as a global economic leader.

To further relieve financial burdens on hardworking families, I’m dedicated to removing excessive government regulations. At the Department of Labor, we’ve announced 63 deregulatory actions to simplify things for workers, allowing them to keep more of their earnings.

Additionally, we’ve introduced a $30 million grant opportunity to support workforce innovation and address urgent labor needs across the country, providing an economic boost to those in need.

Focus on Education and Skills Training

Moreover, our future will be shaped by skilled workers rather than solely by higher education paths. I’m working closely with the Department of Education to give more students access to trade professions. Registrations for trade schools have reached record highs, and I foresee ongoing growth in this sector.

In line with these initiatives, the president recently signed a significant bill that expands Pell Grants for students pursuing vocational education and skills training, unlocking more avenues for future workers. These grants not only encourage the workforce but are also accompanied by historic tax cuts that can boost salaries across the board.

With the expanded Pell Grant opportunities and President Trump’s call to recruit more apprentices, we are on track to create a million new active apprentices nationwide. Just since January, the Department of Labor has witnessed 1,736 new registered apprenticeship programs, along with over 183,000 new apprentices across the U.S.

This Labor Day, we celebrate the contributions of all workers, tradespeople, and small business owners. We look forward to honoring the 250th anniversary of our nation in unity and gratitude.

Under President Trump’s leadership as a champion of labor, the focus remains firmly on placing workers at the center of America’s priorities. Thanks to our efforts, the future for American workers is looking increasingly bright.
