UAE Condemns Iranian Drone Attack Amid Rising Tensions
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) expressed strong disapproval of an Iranian drone strike, which it described as a “dangerous escalation.” This incident, which reportedly occurred over UAE waters, followed escalating tensions after a U.S. attack on an Iranian island in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the hostile Iranian attack on the country involving a drone that was intercepted by air defence systems over UAE territorial waters, in a dangerous escalation,” read a statement from the UAE shared on social media Monday.
On Sunday, U.S. forces targeted two Iranian missile launchers located on Larak Island after observing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attempting to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz, as confirmed by a U.S. official.
In retaliation, Iran conducted an airstrike against U.S. bases in Jordan, a move that prompted President Donald Trump to warn of a strong U.S. response.
According to Iran’s state-run Far News Agency, the IRGC stated the attack was a direct reaction to the U.S. strikes on Larak Island.
“Aggression and crimes will not solve the enemy’s desperation in attempting to weaken the Islamic Republic’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, and every attack will be met with even more devastating responses,” the IRGC declared in a statement.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) refuted the notion that the U.S. actions were an act of aggression, clarifying that their purpose was limited to mitigating the immediate threat posed by mine placements.
“U.S. forces took limited, precise action against IRGC minelaying forces posing an imminent threat in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM asserted on Sunday. “In essence, Iran created the threat and the U.S. military eliminated it to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global commerce,” they added.
On Monday, Trump reiterated to Fox News’ Trey Yingst that there would be a decisive response to the Iranian assault on American forces in Jordan.
“We’re going to hit them hard. There will be a response,” the U.S. president stated.
The president noted that nearly all of the missiles were intercepted, except one that was deemed unlikely to cause significant damage and was allowed to pass through the airspace. He also mentioned that Iran had shown interest in negotiations but expressed skepticism about Tehran’s reliability in reaching a deal.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Iran’s military strength, claiming it had been severely diminished due to economic pressures affecting the nation.
“Iran is officially a Failed Nation. IT IS DEAD! They have no Navy, they have no Air Force, they have no currency, they are not paying their soldiers or police, inflation is at 300% and their leadership is in total disarray and incapable of properly representing the country,” he wrote.
Additionally, he accused Iran of committing widespread violence against its citizens, asserting that the number of protesters killed by the regime had increased.
“The only thing they have is FAKE NEWS from the USA, a willingness to kill their protesters (now over 100,000 people dead. They must be tried for war crimes against humanity!), and a good line of ‘BULLS**T,’” Trump commented.
This recent military activity followed a period of relative calm, with CENTCOM having last reported actions against Iran on July 29, when it conducted a significant wave of strikes against dozens of IRGC targets.
In recent weeks, U.S. strategies have shifted toward economic measures aimed at isolating Iran and crippling its economy.
