Brawl Breaks Out at ICE Protest in Texas
Cellphone footage captured a chaotic scene on Monday afternoon in Texas, where an all-out brawl occurred between a man wearing a MAGA hat and around a dozen high school students during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement protest.
The Buda Police Department reported that a resource officer from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office noted students were participating in a “strike” protest against RM967. Buda is situated about 20 minutes southwest of Austin.
Authorities arrived to maintain order for both pedestrians and motorists, according to police statements. Officers were dispatched to RM967 and FM1626 after reports of turmoil commenced just before 3 PM.
As officers approached, they discovered a confrontation involving a young woman on the sidewalk and an adult male in a vehicle, which escalated to include numerous individuals.
In one clip of the brawl, which can be found in a related video report, a crowd of at least a dozen students can be seen punching and kicking the adult man, bringing him to the ground. He is then placed in a headlock until he manages to get back up and return to his car. The video does not have audio.
Police confirmed the main individuals involved have been identified, and investigations are ongoing, with no arrests made thus far.
According to a spokesperson from the Hays Consolidated Independent School District, while they are aware of the incident and the video, the police are primarily handling the situation since it took place off-campus.
Buda police stated they are contemplating an arrest but haven’t decided on a timeline. When questioned about the man’s possible connection to teaching, as various social media posts suggested, police mentioned they had no such information.
One notable detail confirmed by law enforcement is that the adult male in question was indeed wearing a red MAGA hat during the altercation.
Besides the video compiled for the KXAN report, several other videos of the scuffle have surfaced, which can be found in the comments section of the police department’s Facebook post regarding the incident.
The police investigation reveals that the adult man initiated a verbal clash with the young woman, which then turned physical. Footage from a distance shows the adult man swinging at her as she moves onto the sidewalk.
In a more immediate recording of the fight, the man can be seen brandishing his MAGA hat at the woman while pushing her; she even manages to grab his hat momentarily before falling into the grass.
A third clip shows the exchange from KXAN, where those involved in the fight can be heard shouting various phrases, including, “What do you mean?” and “Get him!” along with, “F**k ICE! You’re a bitch!” and “Go fuck yourself!”
As the man retrieves his hat from his car, someone in the crowd taunts him, saying, “Hey, you wanna get my ass beaten again? Come out!” It’s noticeable that the adult man was still wearing his MAGA hat.
What remains unclear, and perhaps a bit perplexing, is why the man exited his vehicle in the first place. Upon inquiry regarding this point, police stated they are still looking into the matter.
