Homan Warns Against Sanctuary Policies in New York

Tom Homan, the Border Czar, expressed concerns that the New York Democratic Party’s approach to safeguarding illegal immigrants from deportation is likely to backfire.

In a conversation with Glenn Beck, co-founder of Blaze Media, he argued that sanctuary city policies exacerbate issues—not just for immigrant communities, but for the entire nation.

“What happens is, we see more agents on the streets, increased collateral arrests, and a real community safety concern when public safety threats aren’t addressed,” he stated.

Homan mentioned that the Justice Department is currently pursuing lawsuits against sanctuary city policies and highlighted Minnesota as a positive example, where local governments cooperate effectively with federal law enforcement.

“In Minnesota, thanks to backing from local sheriffs, we can arrest dangerous individuals in secure jails. This makes it safer for everyone involved—investigators, foreign nationals, the community as a whole,” he explained.

According to him, this collaborative effort resulted in “unprecedented support” from Minnesota authorities, significantly enhancing the safety of custody and transfer processes. Homan claimed he attempted to explain these benefits to New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

“I told Governor Hochul, ‘If you’re going to push us out onto the streets, we’ll have to establish a team to address that.’ And when we identify the bad actors, we will handle it; however, often they are in proximity to others who are in the country illegally. While they may not pose safety risks themselves, they will be apprehended as well,” he noted.

“This leads to more enforcement and collateral arrests, raising community safety alerts,” he added.

When Beck inquired about Hochul’s response, Homan chuckled, noting that she proceeded to sign the sanctuary policy regardless of his warnings.

“So, I told her, ‘You could have prevented the need for more officers in New York to enforce immigration laws. But, because of the inefficiencies in the prison system, it’s going to take longer,'” he remarked.

Homan pointed out that “now she can’t rent space in local jails,” which means that any undocumented immigrant detained in New York is quickly put on a flight out of state. “How does that help the immigrant community?” he questioned.

He continued, “Families are separated because we’re relocating them outside of New York. This isn’t about protecting immigrants; it’s about upholding her sanctuary policies.”

Homan concluded by stating that the administration is now compelled to respond more swiftly to challenges stemming from New York’s policies.

“Sanctuary city policies are flooding the area,” he remarked.

He further noted that “additional resources will now be allocated to these sanctuary cities because that’s where the issues are. Other states like Florida and Texas aren’t seeing the same problems. In those areas, local law enforcement is collaborating with us effectively.”

Recently, Homan revealed that ICE managed to arrest a record 10,000 illegal immigrants in just five days and emphasized that the agency is ramping up its efforts to make more arrests.
