Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker Warns of Action If Trump Deploys National Guard to Crime-Heavy Chicago

Governor JB Pritzker’s Response to Trump on Chicago Crime

Governor JB Pritzker (D-IL) has issued a warning to President Donald Trump regarding crime in Chicago, suggesting that he might deploy the National Guard if necessary. In a social media update on Wednesday, Pritzker emphasized that if Trump decides to take action, local authorities won’t just stand by.

“Unlike Donald Trump, we keep our promises. Should he choose to send the National Guard to intimidate the people of Chicago, we won’t just remain passive,” he stated.

This statement followed Trump’s remarks on Friday, where he mentioned considering tackling crime in Chicago, as the federal government began addressing crime in Washington, D.C. According to reports, Trump expressed plans for public safety initiatives, deeming the situation in Chicago “disturbing” and criticizing the mayor’s competence.

“We’re going to fix it; it’s not a tough task. The citizens of Chicago, along with the Vice President, are asking for help. They’re reaching out like this,” Trump remarked, gesturing toward supporters.

Pritzker has since criticized Trump’s approach, while Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) remarked that if Trump does send the National Guard, local residents would resist what they view as “tyranny.”

Interestingly, many residents seem to actually favor Trump’s potential law enforcement actions. Dr. Willie Wilson, a businessman and former mayoral candidate, pointed out that the ongoing issues aren’t merely political. He highlighted the struggles faced by people in the south and west sides of the city, plagued by violence and crime.

“Regardless of your political affiliation, anyone willing to help save lives is welcome,” he stated.

There have even been indications of a decrease in crime rates following federal interventions in Washington, D.C. Trump emphasized his aim to ensure that visitors from states like Iowa and Indiana can experience the city safely, without fear for their lives.
