(A recent Emerson College poll reveals President Trump’s approval rating has slipped to 45%.)

Since January, the president’s support has dropped by four points, while disapproval has risen to 47%, an increase of six points.

When it comes to his decision to send the National Guard to 19 states to assist immigration enforcement, 48% of voters oppose it, whereas 44% support it.

The public appears divided on deploying the National Guard in major cities.

In fact, 48% of respondents are against sending the National Guard to places like Los Angeles, New York, or Boston, while 47% disapprove of soldiers being sent to Chicago.

On a separate note, support for California Governor Gavin Newsom has increased significantly, jumping from 12% to 25% since June.

This support surge spans across multiple demographic groups, with a notable 12-point increase among voters aged 30 and younger, now at 18%.

In a head-to-head matchup, Newsom and Vice President Vance are tied at 44%, and 12% remain undecided. Back in July, Newsom had pulled Vance down from 45% to 42%, with 13% undecided at that time.

The economy remains the primary concern for 33% of voters, followed by perceived threats to democracy at 24%, immigration at 12%, and healthcare at 9%. Moreover, 41% of voters feel their financial situation has worsened in the past year, a four-point rise since July. Conversely, 28% believe their finances have improved, although that’s a decline of four points, while 31% say things haven’t changed.

A substantial 65% of voters think legalizing marijuana at the federal level is a good idea, marking a five-point increase since October 2024.

“All age groups support national marijuana legalization, except for those over 70, who tend to oppose it,” Kimball noted. “Voters under 30 (71%) and those in their 40s (74%) show the strongest backing.”

As the NFL season opener approaches on September 4, just 10% of voters believe the Kansas City Chiefs will emerge victorious in the Super Bowl. Last year’s champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, who defeated Kansas City, received a mere 7% support.

The Buffalo Bills also garnered 7%, with the Detroit Lions at 5%.

In the Northeast, there’s hope for the Eagles to win another championship, with 20% favoring them for a repeat.
