Family in Florida discovers their lost cat 900 miles from home

Missing Cat Found After Long Journey

A cat named Xena, who went missing, has now been found more than 900 miles away in North Carolina, which is quite the journey for a pet! A family from Florida had been searching for her after she slipped out of her harness during a holiday in Corolla over the July 4th weekend. They returned home to Boynton Beach with no sign of her, fearing she might be lost forever.

On August 27, a cat in poor condition was discovered about half a mile from where Xena had last been seen, according to the Currituck Animal Shelter. She was underweight and had an abscess in her paw, but still managed to attract attention.

The shelter staff scanned her for a microchip and, to everyone’s relief, confirmed that she was indeed Xena. They quickly reached out to her owners, who were incredibly grateful and arranged to bring her home.

Before their long-awaited reunion, Xena was placed under veterinary care, as shown in a Facebook post from the shelter. Photos shared online captured the emotional moment when the family was finally reunited with their furry friend.

Rachel Stone, the shelter’s director, described the moment, saying that the family was overjoyed, having thought they might never see her again.

She mentioned how dedicated the family was, driving hundreds of miles just to be with Xena again, which really underscores the significance of keeping microchip information current.

The reunion, occurring over a month after her disappearance, was a heartwarming conclusion to a stressful experience. Now back in Boynton Beach, Xena is on the mend after her unexpected adventure, and the shelter staff felt relieved to see her safely reunited with her family.
