Trump Urges DHS and ICE to Focus on Criminal Undocumented Immigrants
Former President Donald Trump is calling for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to prioritize the apprehension of undocumented immigrants who have criminal histories.
“The DHS and ICE need to start highlighting the murderers and other criminals they’re taking out of circulation. They’re saving countless innocent lives! In Minnesota alone, there are thousands of dangerous individuals. That’s why the numbers are at record levels. We need to see the statistics, the names, and faces of these violent offenders. Only then will people begin to support dedicated ICE agents instead of well-paid personnel,” Trump stated, echoing his campaign slogan.
DHS often announces the arrests of illegal immigrants and generally provides details, including names, photos, and backgrounds of alleged criminals.
When asked for comment, the DHS referred to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
“In our efforts, we’ve arrested over 10,000 criminal illegal aliens who’ve harmed Americans, attacked children, and created chaos here in Minneapolis. This is largely due to Tim Walz and Jacob Frey’s failure to safeguard their citizens, opting instead to defend criminals. In just six weeks, our tough DHS agents have taken down violent offenders, including murderers and sexual predators. We’ve apprehended 3,000 criminal illegal aliens, which is a major win for public safety. This is merely a glimpse into the widespread fraud happening in Minneapolis, which could exceed $19 billion. Our investigators are actively working on this,” officials claimed.
DHS mentioned 24 convicted illegal aliens were identified as part of the ‘worst of the worst’ in a recent operation in Minnesota.
On Tuesday, the department reported a video showing investigators in Minnesota detaining Samuel Eduardo Arevalo Hernandez, an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala. Allegations suggest that Cottonwood County neglected to keep Arevalo-Hernandez in custody despite facing serious charges of child sexual abuse.
Trump’s plea to DHS and ICE comes amid a backlash concerning immigration enforcement, particularly following the involvement of ICE in the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.
Good was shot dead on January 7 during an interaction with ICE agents, triggering protests across Minnesota and beyond, as demonstrators demanded that immigration officers leave their neighborhoods.
Recently, anti-ICE activists disrupted a service at Cities Church in St. Paul, accusing the pastor of supporting immigration enforcement. Videos from the event revealed protestors chanting “Justice for Renee Good” while inside the church.
Trump, referencing the demonstrations, claimed he saw footage and suggested the protestors were hired agitators. “These folks should be jailed or deported,” he remarked.
ICE responded by sharing videos from the protests, stating, “Now they’re targeting churches as well. This isn’t just about our officers anymore.” The agency criticized Minnesota’s governor and the mayor for allegedly fueling unrest.
“We will not back down. ICE will remain,” a spokesperson insisted.
In the aftermath of Good’s death, both Walz and Frey publicly criticized federal immigration operations, with the mayor urging ICE to leave Minneapolis. DHS claims that the officer involved acted in self-defense, a narrative many Democrats have contested, with Frey calling it “nonsense.”
