Indiana School Administrator Arrested for Alleged Relationships with Students

A married school administrator in Indiana was allegedly caught having sex with a student by her husband in mid-February. This incident led to the revelation that she might have been involved with another student as well. Following the release of a video showing her police interrogation, her lawyer criticized the situation, calling it “repeated misconduct.”

According to reports from last month, 31-year-old Alicia Hughes was arrested amid allegations of inappropriate conduct with minors. The Union City Police Department stated that the investigation began after Hughes’ husband confronted her and an 18-year-old student at Randolph Eastern School.

It’s said that during this confrontation, Hughes was allegedly struck, prompting an investigation into an assault charge by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

The police further indicated that Hughes had a sexual relationship with a second student, noted to be 17 at the time. As the investigation unfolded, it became clear that Hughes and this underage individual had sexual intercourse on at least five occasions.

On February 17, Hughes was arrested and charged with five counts of child enticement for her actions involving the younger student. Indiana law classifies child seduction as “using a professional relationship to engage in sexual acts for gratification.” In this case, if convicted, Hughes could face a prison sentence ranging from five to 30 years and fines up to $10,000.

Following her arrest, the Superintendent of Randolph Eastern School Corporation indicated that Hughes has been removed from any duties involving students while legal proceedings are ongoing.

In light of the released interrogation video, Hughes’ attorney, David M. Jordan, has called for appropriate action, labeling the release a “repeated injustice.” The police director confirmed that the video was released legally, asserting that it contained no admissions of wrongdoing.

Jordan contended that releasing the video compromised Hughes’ right to a fair trial by leading the public to think there were multiple victims, and that it also highlighted her request for legal counsel. He said the footage quickly gained millions of views across various platforms.

Jordan has requested a prompt trial and asked the judge to prevent further media releases regarding the case without prior court approval. He is also pushing for a public apology from the police for the video release.

Randolph County Prosecutor David Daley expressed concerns about the video release, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring a fair trial for Hughes. However, he clarified that his office had no involvement in the decision to make the video public.

The interrogation footage allegedly reveals Hughes confessing to sexual activities with an 18-year-old student prior to the latter’s 18th birthday and includes questioning about another student, where she denied any sexual contact but acknowledged sending photos.

Authorities noted that the investigation is ongoing, with several electronic devices still being reviewed. These devices are believed to have been used during the alleged incidents.

Hughes is scheduled to appear in court for pretrial motions and a jury trial set for June 15.
