Republican presidential candidate former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) said Monday on FNC’s “Your World” that the Republican Party is pushing back against nullifying the bipartisan border agreement, citing criticism of former President Donald Trump. He said he had become “irresponsible regarding national security.”
Anchor Neil Cavuto said, “You know, Donald Trump famously said that Republicans should be ashamed of themselves.” Senator Lankford will be joining us shortly, and he’s not impressed by the reaction. I’m surprised, and I think it’s because the Republicans feel like they’re in a better position and might be helpful if they don’t have something like this, Joe Biden. It doesn’t help them. What about this?
Ms Haley said: “There are two things going on here and we have to tell the hard truth. First of all, everyone is tired of Congress doing nothing. They can do anything, because we don’t see anything from Republicans or Democrats. They can’t get anything done. Second, tell President Trump, “Don’t do anything until the election.” That means you can’t make them sit down. Our borders are completely open. America is acting like it’s September 10th, but we should remember what September 12th felt like. Because all it takes is one person crossing the border to create a 9/11 moment. We need this fix now. We need members of Congress to stay in Washington, D.C. and not leave until we understand this. Look at the border. ”
She further added: “They need to understand this. They need to adjust it and fix it as much as possible. And they shouldn’t leave Washington, D.C. until they get a border bill. No, wait until the general election to do this. And it’s irresponsible to say Congress has to wait until the general election because President Trump is worried he’ll lose. There are many reasons to worry that Trump will lose. But it doesn’t have to come at the expense of national security.”
