Late last year, an off-duty employee at a middle school in Connecticut was caught on video punching a driver in the face. WTIC-TV reported.
The problem was that when a fellow officer confronted Allen Gunter about the incident, he appeared to be making fun of the punch on body camera video.
Officers then told him they had been seen on camera, the station reported.
What are the details?
WTIC said it received information about the Dec. 8 incident and obtained footage of the incident after filing a Freedom of Information request.
According to WTIC, Thomas Broclio, 37, drove his company car while recording his dashcam when he approached a Toyota Tacoma in front of him at a red light at the intersection of France Avenue and Cromwell Avenue in Rocky Hill. I was driving.
“What are we doing?” Broculio asked as the Tacoma driver honked his horn in hopes of making a right turn.

“I’ve been waiting all day!” Broculio yelled, according to the dashcam. Police said Broculio immediately pointed the finger at the truck driver.
Then Meriden Police Corporal Gunter, 57, who was off-duty at the time, got out of the Tacoma and approached Broculio’s car, his badge flashing.

Gunter, who has more than 20 years of law enforcement experience, was about to make his first embarrassing mistake, the department said.
“You can’t take the right on red, you son of a bitch,” Gunter told Broculio, according to WTIC.
The problem for Gunter was that the sign didn’t convey that – and Broculio quickly noticed Gunter’s gaffe.
“Really? Where does it say that? It says, ‘Stop here on red,'” Broculio replied. Motorists can make a right turn on red if there is a sign that says stop here on red.
Gunter immediately began taking photos of Broculio’s license plate. Broculio accused Mr. Gunter of making the phone calls. Gunter then issued Brocurio a ticket and threatened to call his boss, WTIC reported.
“Of course. That’s good,” Broculio replied. “Please tell me your badge number.”
Broculio got a knuckle sandwich instead. Gunter punched Broculio in the face, the station said. That was the officer’s second mistake.

According to the bureau, Gunter taunted Broculio and asked her, “Who do you think you are? Do you want to be arrested?”
Broculio, looking shocked, replied: “You will be arrested for assaulting a civilian.”
the tables are turned
According to WTIC, Gunter drove away and Broculio called 911, telling dispatchers, “I was assaulted by a police officer. He punched me in the face through the window.”
Rocky Hill police responded and filed an incident report stating that the punch left Broculio “dazed and possibly suffering a concussion,” the department said in a statement.
In addition, Rocky Hill police body camera video shows them confronting each other at Gunter’s residence, WTIC reported.
“Is he charging me with a violation or something like that because I yelled at him?” Gunter asked one of the Rocky Hill police officers.

“It’s an assault charge because you hit him,” the Rocky Hill police officer replied.
“Is he saying I hit him?” Gunter replied.

Let’s call this mistake #3.
“Yes,” the Rocky Hill police officer replied. “And he has a video of you hitting him.”
Remarkably, Mr. Gunter asked Rocky Hill police officers if they could press charges against Mr. Brocurzio. “He’s yelling at me and there’s nothing I can claim as a violation. Whatever it is?”
Charged
Gunter, a school resource officer at Thomas Edison Middle School in Meriden, was charged with breach of peace and third-degree assault, WTIC said.
Interior officials said Gunter violated the department’s rules of conduct and was suspended without pay for five days and required to attend de-escalation training for three consecutive years, the department said.
“When Corporal Gunter assumed administrative duties, he was also removed from his duties as a school resource officer, and as a result of the discipline handed down as part of the IA investigation, Corporal Gunter was permanently removed from his position. He will be assigned the duties of an SRO,” the ministry added in a statement to WTIC.
