White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre raised eyebrows Tuesday with her puzzling response to Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
On Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson talked outside The Manhattan courthouse where Trump’s trial is being held to show support for former President Trump. Johnson called the trial a “sham” and a “travesty of justice,” declared Trump “not guilty,” and said Trump’s opponents “were trying to keep him here and keep him off the campaign trail.” We are doing this intentionally.”
“At least they were honest for once!”
Later that day, a reporter asked Jean-Pierre whether the Biden administration thought it was “appropriate” for Johnson to defend Trump outside of court.
Naturally, the spokesperson declined to comment, but her reasoning is I was surprised.
“I obviously don’t want to comment because this has to do with the 2024 election,” Jean-Pierre said.
The claim that Trump’s trial over allegations of falsifying business records from nearly a decade ago, which Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) has tried to declare as an election interference case, is related to: this year’s election This led to accusations that Jean-Pierre had falsely revealed the motives behind the Trump criminal case.
“Even Joe Biden’s top spokesperson knows what this trial is about,” said Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.). Said. “It’s not about upholding the law. It’s about putting Biden’s biggest political opponent in jail because he can’t beat him in November. At least they’re being honest for once!”
“Motivation: Need I say more?” Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) reacted.
Stephen Miller, former top adviser to the Trump administration, claimed“This is called a confession.”
Republicans, on the other hand, accused Jean-Pierre of mistakenly committing the crime. saying “Say the quiet parts out loud” claimed She reportedly admitted to “election interference.”
What makes Jean-Pierre’s reaction unusual is that she did not refuse to comment on the basis of ongoing legal proceedings, nor did she refuse to comment on the basis of politics. This is a typical reaction to an ongoing criminal trial.
Legally, Trump’s case should not be “related” to the 2024 election, other than the fact that he is the leading Republican presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, few Americans believe Trump is being treated like any other criminal defendant. According to a CNN pollThe majority, however, are skeptical that Trump received a fair trial.
