DETROIT, MI — Black conservatives gathered in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday night ahead of former President Donald Trump’s speech at Turning Point Action’s People’s Convention.
A BLEXIT event featuring founders Candace Owens and Brandon Tatum as keynote speakers took place in Detroit on Thursday night, bringing together Black conservatives to hear from conservative thought leaders including Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
The event kicked off with singer-songwriter Lakita Harper singing the national anthem and attendees standing and holding their hands over their hearts.
Before the speakers took the stage, a video clip of President Joe Biden’s 1993 speech was shown. Presented He reminded the audience of when Biden, then a senator, warned that “there are predators on our streets” and added that “we have no choice but to remove them from our communities,” which many took as a comment on the black community.
“I’m proud to say that more than 70 percent of the BLEXIT leaders here today previously considered themselves leftists,” BLEXIT director Pierre Wilson told the audience, drawing applause.
“We’re reaching out to people with whom we disagree,” Wilson continued, “and one of the things we’ve found when we go to the places where the fight is actually happening: Black churches, historically Black colleges and universities, Baltimore, Atlanta, Chicago, is that many of these people are actually with us.”
“It wasn’t a battle of whether they were for or against, it was a battle of getting the opportunity to talk to them,” Wilson added. “And now it’s clear why the left was so desperate to silence our voices: because they were afraid that if the conversation happened, we would free up some people and they would open up.”
“We are not Black Lives Matter. We are not isolating ourselves. We believe in America as a whole,” Wilson argued about BLEXIT.
The audience also heard from rapper Topher, conservative activist Stephen Davis, also known as MAGA Hulk, and conservative comedian Terrence K. Williams.
Williams slammed people who tell “young black kids and teens” that “you don’t have a chance because of white people.”
“How can you say that no matter what you do, you don’t have a chance,” Williams said, adding, “We live in the greatest country.”

Owens took the stage with Tatum and spoke about his Catholic faith and warned about the influence of Hollywood, music and conventional media on audiences.
“These people that we’re fighting in society are truly demonic, and if you’re not aware of it, it affects your psyche in a way that makes you think, oh my gosh, how can you be immune,” Owens said.
“Your soul is real,” Owens continued, “and if you don’t believe that, you should know that there are people out there who understand that. They influence you through the media, they influence you through Hollywood, they set your desires through what you watch and what you listen to.”
“I grew up listening to hardcore music, and now I’m very conscious that I have a soul too, so I don’t watch scary movies. I know it’s demonic and I don’t want to embrace that, so I don’t listen to that kind of music,” she added.

Owens told the audience: “Once you go through the process of cleansing yourself from all evil, you begin to realize just how dark those powers are.”
“Whatever you do, you have to put God first,” Tatum added.
The BLEXIT rally took place the day before Turning Point Action’s three-day rally began. People’s Congressis scheduled to kick off in Detroit on Friday, where attendees will have the chance to hear from a host of conservative speakers, including former President Donald Trump.
