I Did Not Attend Trump Meeting to ‘Support’ Former President

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said he attended a meeting with former President Donald Trump last week not to “support” Trump, but to “listen.”

Romney Clarified He told CNN’s chief congressional correspondent Manu Raju that his attendance at a meeting between Republican senators and President Trump at the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) headquarters had not shaken his support for the former president.

“I didn’t go there to support former President Trump,” Romney began, “I went there to hear what he was going to do if he became president.”

Senator Romney, along with Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Romania), had previously announced that they would not attend the meeting with President Trump, citing scheduling conflicts.

“When it comes to President Trump, it’s a matter of personal character,” Mitt Romney added. “When it comes to someone who has actually been found to have committed sexual assault, that’s where I draw the line. I wouldn’t cross that line as someone I would want as president of the United States.”
