Suspect in deadly Florida State University shooting identified as son of local sheriff’s deputy, police say

Two people have been killed and six injured in the shooting at Florida State University on Thursday. According to To the authorities.

Police have identified the shooting suspect as 20-year-old Phoenix Echner, the son of a local sheriff’s aide. Police sources who spoke to ABC News reportedly shot Ichner, who was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

“We make sure we are doing everything we can to prosecute and send a message to people that this is never acceptable here in Leon County.”

When the shooting was reported around noon, the university sent campus-wide warnings and told students to evacuate. The shooting began in a student union building where police responded to the suspects and shot them dead. The suspect was taken to hospital and taken into custody.

Police said the two dead victims are not students, but they have yet to release their identities. Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare said the six injured victims received were in fair condition.

Sheriff Walter McNeill told reporters that Ichner had gained access to his mother’s personal weapons and went to college with a shotgun and handgun. His mother was a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office for over 18 years.

“Her service to this community has been exceptional,” McNeill said.

He went on to say the suspect is a member of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Youth Advisory Board and has participated in many training programs at the Sheriff’s Office.

“It’s not surprising he has access to weapons,” he added.

Some FSU students reportedly experienced the horrors of the 2018 Parkland shooting.

“This event is tragic in more ways than people in the audience can infer from a law enforcement perspective,” McNeill said. Added. “But I’m going to tell you this, we’ll make sure we’ll make sure to make sure people see the best we can to prosecute and send a message to them that this is never tolerated here in Leon County, and I dare say this whole state and this whole country.”

President Donald Trump has been updated about the shooting. FSU classes have been cancelled until Friday.
