Chennai: Russian Medical Education Options for Indian Students
On Wednesday, Valeri Hojev, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, remarked that Russia remains the top choice for Indian students pursuing medical studies abroad. He emphasized the well-established reputation of Russian universities in offering quality medical education globally.
Hojev announced that the number of seats for Indian students has increased from 8,000 to 10,000 for the year 2024 in response to the annual rise in applicants. This boost reflects the increasing interest in medical education in Russia, which is the only foreign country adhering completely to the National Medical Board of India’s latest standards for overseas medical education.
He noted, “For the past 60 years, Indian students have been enrolled in Russian universities. Each year, thousands travel to Russia to obtain prestigious and affordable education that is recognized worldwide.”
With a well-rounded curriculum, experienced instructors, and state-of-the-art facilities, Russian universities offer a solid educational framework for those pursuing medical degrees, he added.
Continuing with previous initiatives, the Russian government will provide its annual 100% scholarship program, which will benefit 200 Indian students this year. The upcoming Russian Education Fair, targeting students for the 2025-26 academic year, is set to take place at the Russian Scientific and Cultural Centre in Chennai on May 10th and 11th. Similar events are also in the works for Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruchirappali.
This fair will include institutions specializing in science, technology, and engineering that offer programs in advanced fields like biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and data science.
Participating institutions will likely include Volgograd State University, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Kazan State University, National Research Nuclear University, Moscow Aviation Institute, and Moscow State Regional University.
