Canadian Woman Detained After Confrontation on New Jersey Boardwalk
A newly surfaced video captures the moment a Canadian woman, accused of overstaying her visa, is confronted by a group of friends on a New Jersey boardwalk. The friends were wearing clothing with “Trump” and “ICE” printed on them. In the video, the woman, Caitlin Tracy, can be seen slapping a teenage girl and is later apprehended by federal immigration authorities.
The Department of Homeland Security posted the video, branding Tracy as a “Maple Leaf Menace” and indicating she is currently in custody, awaiting deportation proceedings.
“This illegal alien who assaulted a teenager does not need to remain in our country,” the statement read.
The footage reportedly shows Tracy approaching the young girl and striking her before walking away.
A spokesperson from the DHS later mentioned that Tracy entered the U.S. on April 14, 2024, on a visa that is set to expire on September 6 of the same year, but she remained in the country past that date.
After her arrest, local police transferred her to ICE custody for further immigration processing.
Matthew Geroni, who identifies himself as Tracy’s husband, challenged the allegations, asserting that the incident has been blown out of proportion due to online attention. He expressed that the situation is disproportionate and insisted that Tracy, who has never faced legal trouble before, did not deserve to be incarcerated. Geroni described the incident as minor, saying conservatives have exaggerated it on social media.
According to an affidavit, the victim and her friends were walking on the boardwalk when Tracy began hurling insults about their attire. The incident escalated when Tracy allegedly punched the victim.
Authorities later identified Tracy through social media connections and passport details she provided when entering the U.S.
In emotional online videos following Tracy’s detention, Geroni has asked for help in finding an immigration lawyer, expressing his distress and uncertainty over what to do next.
He had also set up a GoFundMe campaign to cover Tracy’s legal costs, which was later removed from the platform. Geroni claimed this removal was prompted by an organized effort from “Facebook’s MAGA supporter groups.” A representative from GoFundMe noted that the fundraiser was taken down for violating its policies regarding legal defenses for violent crimes.
The incident caught attention on Capitol Hill after the release of the video, with some lawmakers commenting on it. Tracy is scheduled for an appearance in Ocean County Superior Court on August 4.
Tracy’s attorney has not provided any comments regarding the case at this time.
