Fat Joe’s Take on Knicks’ NBA Finals Journey

Rapper Fat Joe found himself at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, sitting quietly as Knicks’ coach Mike Brown and players addressed the media ahead of Game 3 of the NBA Finals. He couldn’t resist joking with Brown about his choice of shoes.

Then there was Jalen Brunson, who, in a moment of frustration, reacted to talent evaluators not recognizing the potential of the Mavericks’ 33rd pick from the 2018 NBA Draft.

Soon enough, the spotlight shifted to Fat Joe. He expressed his excitement about the Knicks, who were leading 2-0 against the Spurs and just two wins away from clinching their first title since 1973.

He lauded the Knicks for their teamwork and the electric atmosphere in a city that hasn’t seen Finals action in nearly three decades.

Fat Joe also took a moment to honor Knicks owner James Dolan. “I want to thank Mr. Dolan for being the greatest team owner in the game,” he remarked. “People often misinterpret him. They view him as a villain, like Bruce Wayne in the movies, but he really cares. All those watch parties? He makes it happen for us.”

He shared a personal anecdote about Dolan’s support. “Recently, I was in Cleveland, trying to buy courtside tickets. The moment they realized it was me, a Knicks fan, they pulled the tickets. Dolan was furious and promised that if we made it to Game 5, he’d ensure I was there. It showed me he’s really on our side.”

The Knicks advanced in the playoffs, overcoming the Cavaliers and, it seems, dodging any embarrassment for Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.

Fat Joe described New York as the “place to be right now.” He even mentioned hanging out with Timothée Chalamet, noting how the actor lights up every block party he attends.

Despite the excitement, Fat Joe confessed he initially had doubts about the team’s potential this season, especially following the firing of coach Tom Thibodeau last June.

“My coach and I were a bit anxious,” he admitted. “I adore Thibs. When Brown came in, I wondered what we had done. But he proved to be an exceptional coach.”

The Knicks are currently riding a remarkable playoff streak, winning 13 consecutive games—second only to the Warriors’ 15-game streak in 2017.

It’s safe to say that Fat Joe has become a believer. “Honestly, looking at the stats, we might just be witnessing one of the greatest teams ever,” he concluded.
