Israel’s Netanyahu reacts after Trump warns of ‘hell to pay’ if Hamas doesn’t free hostages

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said President-elect Donald Trump was in the “right position” when he warned of “hell's retribution” if Hamas did not release the remaining hostages.

“President Trump, as is customary, focused on the right place: Hamas, not the Israeli government.” [elsewhere]” Prime Minister Netanyahu said at the beginning of a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. According to Reuters.

President Trump on Monday called on Hamas to release all hostages before his inauguration on January 20.

President Trump has been held by the Iranian-backed terrorist organization since October 7, 2023, after Hamas attacked Israel, killing at least 1,200 people and kidnapping at least 250, Trump said in a post on Truth Social. He said nothing was being done to free the people. Seven of the 101 hostages remaining in Gaza are American.

“Everyone is talking about hostages being held in the Middle East in extremely violent, inhumane, and against the will of the entire world, but it's all talk and no action!” Trump wrote. Ta.

“Please let this truth be known: If the hostages are not released by January 20, 2025, the day I am proudly sworn in as President of the United States, there will be hell in the Middle East. Please stand up for those responsible for these atrocities against humanity,” Trump added.

The message also received support from Israel's Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

Reuters quoted him as saying: “This is the way to get the hostages back: to increase the pressure and cost on Hamas and its supporters, and to defeat them rather than give in to their absurd demands.” Ta.
