Russia urges Israel to stop attacks on Iran, cautioning about a potential nuclear disaster.

Russia tells Israel to halt Iran strikes, warning of 'nuclear catastrophe'

The Russian Foreign Ministry has urged Israel to stop targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, warning that continued military attacks could trigger a global “nuclear catastrophe.”

In an official statement, they declared, “Israel’s ongoing, concentrated strikes on the peaceful nuclear sites of the Islamic Republic are illegal according to international law. This presents an unacceptable threat to global security, edging us closer to a nuclear disaster, with repercussions felt around the world, including in Israel itself.”

The conflict, now in its sixth day, has seen Israel escalate its involvement in efforts to undermine Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, resulting in the deaths of key Iranian military figures and nuclear scientists.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has consistently maintained that Iran’s uranium enrichment activities are for civilian purposes. He justifies his nation’s military actions as necessary to neutralize potential nuclear threats posed by Iran.

President Trump is currently considering various options, including US military strikes against Iranian targets. His approach has shifted recently, calling for a more robust response to Iranian activities, particularly in light of Moscow’s support for Tehran.

According to Russian media, Deputy Minister Sergei Riabakov expressed concerns that increasing US military support for Israel could destabilize the region further.

“This would fundamentally disrupt the current balance,” he warned.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Iranian leaders have committed to the International Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and are focused on “peaceful” nuclear activities. Russia also backs the revival of nuclear discussions between the US and Iran, which were impacted by the recent attacks on Iranian military and nuclear assets.

They stated, “Russia recognizes Iran’s willingness to engage with the US to reaffirm its commitments under the NPT and to address any doubts regarding Tehran’s nuclear program. Israel’s military aggression, however, must cease.” Moscow insists that meaningful solutions can only emerge through diplomatic engagement.

“The goal of nuclear non-proliferation, as outlined in the NPT, should not come at the expense of aggression or innocent lives,” they added.

Russia accused Israel and Iran’s military conflicts of being exploited to penalize “disfavored states.”

They criticized the Western bloc’s attempts to manipulate the global nuclear non-proliferation framework, stating that such actions come with significant costs to international efforts for political resolution in less advantaged countries and are wholly unacceptable.
