Grandson Charged with Grandmother’s Murder in New Jersey Stabbing
An 18-year-old man from New Jersey is facing charges for allegedly stabbing his elderly grandmother to death. The tragic incident occurred Monday morning, with police discovering a knife embedded in the victim, identified as Darlene Brown, 69.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Lewis Brown, a resident of Jackson Township, has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose following the death of his grandmother.
According to officials, police received a 911 call around 7 a.m. reporting a murder at a residence on Justin Way. When officers arrived, they found Lewis Brown standing at the doorway. He reportedly exited the home with his hands raised and was promptly taken into custody as the investigation began.
Upon entering the house, officers discovered Darlene Brown’s body in an upstairs bedroom, showing clear signs of stab wounds to her face and neck. Authorities stated that two knives were found protruding from her body.
Further investigation revealed that Lewis Brown was the one who made the 911 call and was implicated in his grandmother’s death. He is currently being held at the Ocean County Jail, with no bail or hearing information available at this time.
Neighbors shared their shock. Jasmina Perajic, who lived in the same housing complex, described Darlene Brown as exceptionally kind and involved, often speaking to her several times a week. She noted that Lewis was quiet and had faced bullying at school, but perceived him as a good kid who performed well academically.
Perajic also mentioned that after the death of Lewis’s mother due to sickle cell anemia, he moved in with his grandmother, who diligently cared for him. It’s a heartbreaking situation that left the community reeling.
