An armed individual managed to enter Zwink Elementary School in Klein, Texas, on Tuesday, as reported by multiple sources.
The suspect, identified as Mukhi Mohanad Nazim, 39, faces charges for carrying a weapon in a restricted area after allegedly gaining access through a door that another visitor failed to secure properly.
The link between the suspect and the school remains unclear.
According to a school employee, Nazim was dressed in military-style attire, including a tactical vest, with a firearm and Taser visibly at his side.
In a letter addressed to parents, school officials explained the delay in notifying them about the incident.
“From the moment this individual left the front office, we worked closely with various law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend him,” they conveyed, referencing KHOU.
They also mentioned, “Public announcements during this time could have hindered these efforts, possibly tipping off the suspect and hindering arrests.”
Authorities tracked the suspect after he exited the school using surveillance footage, facial recognition technology, and the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Flock license plate database. Reports indicate he drove away from the scene in a blue Dodge Charger and was subsequently arrested at his residence approximately half a mile away.
While he was taken into custody on Wednesday night and booked into Harris County Jail, one of his neighbors described him as a military veteran who often looked out for local children, suggesting there might be misunderstandings regarding his actions.
Reflecting on their interactions, the neighbor, who preferred to be identified as Randy, noted, “He’s always keeping an eye on my kids. When I was away in California, he would accompany my son home from the bus stop, making sure he was safe.”
