Secret recording tries to trap Alito, but he seizes the moment to get honest about the media: ‘It’s a dangerous time’

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito understands the ways of traditional media.

For over a year, media outlets, particularly ProPublica, have been trying to delegitimize the Supreme Court by implying that Justices Alito and Clarence Thomas committed unethical acts, without ever finding any actual evidence to support their all-out assault.

“They look for every little thing they can find and try to make something out of it. That’s what it is.”

In newly released audio recordings, Alito explained why he believes the media is targeting him and his colleagues.

The recording was made at a Supreme Court Historical Association event on June 3rd, when progressive “advocacy journalist” Lauren Windsor lied to Justice Alito and his wife and secretly recorded the event.

The latest recording was secretly recorded by Windsor’s colleague, Allie Samarco.

In the recording, Samarco flattered Alito by calling him an “American hero,” but Alito rejected the compliment, before asking a leading question: Why has the Supreme Court been “so attacked and targeted by the media recently?”

“Well, I think the reason is simple: they don’t like our decision,” Alito replied.

“And they don’t like the fact that we’re anticipating that we might rule on some of the cases that are coming up. That’s the beginning and the end,” he explained. “You have groups that are heavily funded by ideological groups that are spearheading these attacks. That’s the way it is.”

When pressed for details, Alito pointed to ProPublica.

“ProPublica is heavily funded, and they spent a lot of money, for example, investigating Clarence Thomas, everything he did in his life,” Alito explained. “They did the same thing with me. They look for every little thing they can find and try to get something out of it. That’s how it goes.”

Alito later added, “I think these are dangerous times.”

ProPublica responded to Alito’s criticism. In a statement:

ProPublica exposes abuses of power regardless of which party is in power, and our newsroom operates with fierce independence. Donors are not informed of stories before they’re published and have no say in which stories our reporters pursue. More than 55,000 donors from all walks of life actively fund our investigative and nonpartisan reporting.

In contrast, ProPublica Liberal bias And that Funding Affluent liberals It’s well documented: after all, self-proclaimed “nonpartisan” media outlets don’t publish in-depth investigations into the lives of left-leaning Supreme Court justices.
