FedEx Driver Googled Camera Info After Killing
A Texas jury has discovered that Tanner Horner, the FedEx driver accused of killing 7-year-old Athena Strand, searched online for information about his truck’s cameras after the crime.
Authorities revealed that the morning following the incident, Horner looked up queries such as “Do FedEx truck cameras always record?” and “Missing Girl in Paradise,” according to a cellphone expert who analyzed his digital activity.
During the trial, a distressing video surfaced showing Athena Strand in the back of Horner’s truck. The jury is currently deliberating whether he should receive the death penalty or a life sentence for her murder.
Testimony on Tuesday also included a woman who accused Horner of raping her twice when she was 16 and he was 22. The witness, whose name is withheld due to the ongoing nature of the case, stated that on the night of one incident, he persuaded her grandmother to misrepresent her age and provided her with alcohol and marijuana.
“That night, as I laid down and decided it was time to go to bed, Tanner Horner grabbed me and started kissing me and we started having sex,” she recounted in court.
She further testified that on a separate occasion, she had fallen asleep in Horner’s room and woke up to find him touching her, leading to another sexual encounter.
“I froze; I completely froze. I didn’t know what to do; I just let it be,” she explained, expressing feelings of sickening violation and regret for not reporting him sooner, fearing it could have prevented future assaults on others.
While Horner has confessed to kidnapping and killing Strand—claiming it occurred accidentally when he crashed into her with his van—he denies any sexual assault.
A verdict regarding the potential imposition of the death penalty is expected later this week.
