A Utah man and his wife were found dead Thursday afternoon in an apparent murder-suicide, days after the man reflected on being a “horrible person” in his final shocking social media post.
Orrin Johnson, 57, is accused of shooting and killing Kerilynn Johnson, 52, then turning the gun on himself inside their $1.34 million home in American Fork, Utah. According to KUTV.
Police have not revealed a motive for the killings but said the parents’ bodies were discovered by a family member.
According to the outlet, a neighbor of the couple, who had played softball with them the night before the shooting, said he had no problem with Olin hinting at his plans for the future.
The couple celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in April.
Before the tragedy, Olin spoke of his concern and love for bikes.
“No matter how crappy I am, my bike will always love me. And my skis. They love me,” Olin says. Read the June 18 post There are also photos of him biking and skiing.
Olin’s account described him as a “father of six amazing children and a beautiful wife” and featured his family, especially Kerilynn.
“The family is grieving and requests privacy. Our hearts go out to Orrin and Kerilynn’s family and friends,” American Fork police said.
According to LinkedIn, Olin is listed as the owner of Simtek Modular, a “services company that manufactures modular panels for personnel training.”
The page states that the company has worked on the project in collaboration with the U.S. Border Patrol, the FBI and the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
Recent posts include a trip to Australia to celebrate Kerrilynn’s birthday, as well as posts praising her baking.
Kerilyn Johnson is an adjunct instructor at the BYU School of Music where she has taught several courses over the past two years.
She has been credited with performing in several major stage productions and performed throughout the United States, Russia and the Baltic States while completing her undergraduate degree.
“She currently works in her local studio, has a private studio at home and is the mother of six children,” her profile says.
She is remembered as a generous friend who will be greatly missed.
“Kerilynn is literally one of the most generous, kind, supportive people I know,” Gail Lockwood told KUTV.
Lockwood, a retired voice teacher at BYU, said she taught Johnson as a student and called him a friend.
“She was a light to the world and will be greatly missed,” she added.
